To us, being an artisan means valuing quality, authenticity, and the story behind each handcrafted product. It’s about more than just making something beautiful - it’s about creating something meaningful, built to last, and infused with passion. From hand-selecting each slab of wood to designing every piece in-house, we are deeply involved in every step of the process. We believe that when something is made with intention, it carries a special kind of magic.

This belief in true craftsmanship led us to rebrand with the tagline "Artisan Creations. Coastal Roots." It reflects who we are at our core: dedicated makers who carefully design and craft each piece while staying true to our love for the ocean and our coastal heritage. Whether it’s a custom-engraved cutting board, a hand-shaped charcuterie piece, or a uniquely personalized gift, every item we create carries a story, and that’s what makes it special.

Hand-Selecting the Finest Materials

Quality starts with the materials, and we don’t leave that to chance. We personally select each slab of wood to ensure that every piece we craft meets our high standards. Thankfully, we have an incredible wood shop just minutes from us, where we can source premium hardwoods with the perfect grain, durability, and character.

This hands-on approach allows us to be confident in the wood we use - because we’ve seen it, touched it, and chosen it ourselves. We know exactly what goes into our products and onto them, ensuring that every piece is safe, durable, and designed to last for years to come.

Crafted in Our Shop, with Care

Once we’ve selected the perfect wood, the real magic happens in our shop. Many of our wooden products - cutting boards, custom-shaped boards, and other specialty pieces - are handcrafted by us, right here in Pembroke, Massachusetts.

Being hands-on in the process means we control every detail, from the precision of each cut to the smoothness of the final finish. We take our time, making sure every board is shaped, sanded, and finished to perfection. Because when something is made by hand, with care and craftsmanship, you can feel the difference.

Designed with Meaning

Before a single cut is made, every design begins as an idea - a vision brought to life through creativity and collaboration. At Cannon By the Sea, we don’t believe in cookie-cutter designs. Each piece is crafted to tell a story, whether it’s a personalized engraving, a custom logo, or a meaningful phrase that holds sentimental value.

I work one-on-one with our customers to create truly unique designs, ensuring that every piece is special. This part of the process is personal for me. I fell in love with art back in high school, and when we started Cannon By the Sea, that passion reignited something in me. It set my soul on fire - and made me whole again. Designing isn’t just a step in our process; it’s the heart of what we do. There’s something incredibly fulfilling about taking a customer’s vision and turning it into a tangible, lasting piece of art.

Sourcing with Purpose

While we craft many of our wooden products in-house, there are a few select items that we source from artisans who share our values. Our olive wood charcuterie boards, bowls, and utensils are handcrafted in Tunisia by skilled artisans who use only fallen olive trees - never ones that have been cut down. This ensures sustainability and honors the natural beauty of the wood.

For materials we can’t make ourselves, such as glassware, we took our time researching until we found a brand that met our high standards. We source our glassware from a high-end luxury manufacturer in Germany, known for their exceptional quality and craftsmanship. This allows us to confidently stand behind every product we offer, whether it’s made in our shop or carefully selected from another artisan.

And because we believe in what we create, we actually use the products we sell. From the tumblers we drink our morning coffee from to the cutting boards we prepare meals on, the ornaments we hang on our Christmas tree, the cake toppers that celebrate life’s sweetest moments, and the leather keychains that travel with us everywhere - we stand by our products because they are part of our everyday lives, too.
